Germany’s @_Aniqo has an alt.pop breakthrough with the feel-good video of “LoveLife”

ANIQO, “LoveLife”

In quite a contrast to other recent and often darker releases, Germany’s ANIQO – singer, songwriter, producer, and film-maker – returns with “LoveLife”.  The song is an alt.pop celebration of freedom, people, and of course love of life.  And what better way to convey a message with a smile and a hug, just for no reason at all?  As the video shows, most people are receptive to a few moments of unbridled joy, while others still resist.  And in Europe, a 30 year celebration of the fall of the Berlin Wall shouldn’t go unrecognized, so “LoveLife” captures the anniversary of a triumph of freedom and democracy too.  The video is well shot with many humorous moments and ANIQO shows off her video-making skills as well as creating her most positive and diverse song to date.  Be sure to check out “LoveLife” above.

Watch the haunting, stunning video for “Chess” by @_ANIQO

ANIQO, “Chess”

At the end of last year, I wrote about “New Signs” by German singer/songwriter ANIQO.  She’s followed it up with a haunting, compelling video for “Chess”, also from her upcoming album Birth.  Sounding perhaps most like Sinéad O’Connor with a dash of Björk in this song, “Chess” is a deliberately paced, progressive slice of electronica, also recalling Laurie Anderson’s initial works, which is enhanced greatly by the imaginative visuals in the video.  It’s somewhat reminiscent of the intrigue of changing faces in the classic video for “Cry” by Godley & Creme from back in the 80’s.  Except there’s only one face, or partial face, in the video, and it’s ANIQO.  “Chess” is not for everyone but it’s bold and adventurous to the credit of the singer/songwriter and her video partners.  I would definitely suggest exposure for the video through various competitions such as one I eventually saw at SXSW – potential award calibre material here in my opinion!

Compelling “New Signs” introduces new German singer/songwriter @_ANIQO featuring @AnnieHardy

ANIQO featuring ANNIE HARDY, “New Signs”

Germany’s ANIQO arrives with a compelling single about starting over stronger after hard times called “New Signs”.  It takes cues from 80’s folk and rock, channeled perhaps through 90’s alt.rock singers like Sinéad O’Connor, Dolores O’Riardon, and Fiona Apple.  “New Signs” takes its time to tell its interesting story but ANIQO’s vocals, alongside those of stunning harmonies by Giant Drag’s Annie Hardy, are what sustain its 5:20 length.  The sparse instrumentation, featuring crisp piano, guitar, and percussion, provides an appropriate backdrop for its message of determination.  “New Signs” is the lead track from ANIQO’s upcoming album called Birth.  Give it a good solid listen at the link above.
