Meet Finland’s Lalalow with a dreamy song written with introverts in mind called “Sensory Deprivation”

LALALOW, “Sensory Deprivation”

With a title like “Sensory Deprivation”, you might expect some heady, minimalist, experimental electronic work that might just go right over your head.  Instead, meet the Finnish duo Lalalow (vocalist/keyboardist Nina Jackson and guitarist/bassist Tommi Laivamaa) who have put a lot of thought into creating a brief dreamscape with introverts in mind with “Sensory Deprivation”.  This is not to say that everyone can’t find something to enjoy about the song. The worthy idea here is that introverts (like yours truly) enjoy their time with themselves and do a lot of creative thinking, so why not channel that into a mellow, surreal escape, with Nina’s voice sounding like a cousin of Jessie Ware over lovely instrumentation full of subtleties.  At only 2:54, the song is over sooner than you are aware, making it well worth repeating.  So in the end, don’t think, just sit back, relax, and imagine…

“Waitin'” by Finland’s @Samlightmusic and India’s @Trauvmusic with vocalist Morell Brown @officialMBrown puts some big bounce into your summer

With the world sometimes feeling so close together, it’s always amazing to see cross-continent collaborations come to successful fruition, and such is the case with “Waitin'” by Samlight and Trauv with vocals from NYC’s Morell Brown.  Finland’s Samlight has seen electronic dance releases flourish through most of the major dance music labels.  Here he’s partnered with Trauv, a rising producer from India whose music has already been supported by the likes of Thomas Gold and Hardwell.  Although there have been a number of successful dance producers from India such as Shaan, I must admit it’s rare to see this kind of collaboration.  Bring in singer/songwriter Morell , who totally nails the vocal, and you have “Waitin'”, a true bop that aims to put some big bounce into your summer.  In between its story, “Waitin'” emphasizes sparkling arpeggios which teleport you back to melodic house of 2012.  We need more feel-good music in 2020 and “Waitin'” certainly has the recipe for just that.

Finland’s @Aliskymusic gives us the edgy “Traces” with American singer @Iolitemusic

ALISKY and IOLITE, “Traces”

It’s moody and offers its fair share of dramatic vocal effects, but nonetheless “Traces” by Finnish producer Alisky and featuring young American vocalist IOLITE will easily snag your attention.  There’s an almost psychedelic rock side to the futuristic house style that Alisky tackles with a lot of finesse.  IOLITE’s vocal tells a story that’s even more of a mystery unto itself once it’s distorted and reshaped in “Matrix” like musical fashion.  Best of all I like “Traces” because it’s bold and doesn’t hold back.  Alisky offers a bracing alternative take on house music that makes you want to hear more.

Sizzling Electropop from Finland’s @Hannismusic with “Firebreak”

HANNIS, “Firebreak”

It’s been a hot second since I was raving about Hannis’ debut single “Time Has Come”, the unique Europop-meets-dubstep tune that ended up as my #20 song of 2014.  Sticking with the same innovative production team, but co-writing “Firebreak” herself, Hannis builds on the notoriety achieved by “Time Has Come” with a more pop radio friendly song.  But whereas “Time Has Come” focused on the softer and more delicate tones of her voice, “Firebreak” shows what a powerhouse Hannis can be when interpreting the emotion of her song against a feverish melody.  “Firebreak” is one crackerjack electronic pop song and should continue to attract worthy attention for Hannis.  And while it wasn’t released until January of this year, you can get a glimpse of the singer at last by watching the video for “Time Has Come” below.  Get both songs on iTunes.
