“Believer” is the optimistic new song and video from @MajorLazer & @Showtek

MAJOR LAZER & SHOWTEK, “Believer”

It may seem an unlikely move, but in a classic teaming of Major Lazer and Dutch EDM veterans Showtek, the artists have made their new song “Believer” into an affecting video (above) that sympathizes with the plight of refugees, in particular those from Syria.  The song itself has a great synth hook, trading off a progressive techno vibe against some Caribbean flavours, totally fitting the story line that has been crafted to show that there is still hope amid tragedy.  You’ll be wanting to watch this one multiple times, and “Believer” is definitely a must for dance clubs and radio.  Another score for Diplo’s Mad Decent label with almost 2 million views for the video in four days.  🙂

Two big thumbs up for @officialKoni’s remix of @MajorLazer’s “Cold Water”

MAJOR LAZER, “Cold Water” (Koni remix featuring Lea, Nick, J.Roosevelt & EZY)

Songs receive remixes and cover versions so quickly out of the gate these days that it’s hard to keep track, and of course many of them are unofficial.  So Koni’s challenge by jumping on it right away was to make it stand out.  He’s already captured attention with remixes/reworks of songs by Adele and Drake, and lesser known ones like the fabulous remix of Bryce Fox’s “Burn Fast”.  Making “Cold Water” ‘pop’ has been achieved here by basically combining a remix with a cover version.  Koni’s “Cold Water” has a slightly different celebratory kind of vibe (cue hands in the air :P), and if you’re going to replace Justin Bieber and MØ with others they better be pretty damn good vocalists.  And they sure are!  The voices aren’t as slick but they blend well and do rise to the huge challenge, making “Cold Water” their own.  That’s the biggest success to me with this remix/cover and it’s no wonder that it’s getting so much attention right away.  There will be lots more covers and remixes of “Cold Water” but I guarantee this is one you’ll come back to – get it for free at the link above.

@KatyB gets all soulful with @CraigDavid and @MajorLazer in “Who Am I”

KATY B, CRAIG DAVID & MAJOR LAZER, “Who Am I”

British singer Katy B. drops her best song yet with “Who Am I”, a splashy R&B ballad for clubs that is making inroads on the UK singles chart.  With the help of some remixes this one could be headed to the top of club charts too.  And this time, on her upcoming album Honey, Katy is bringing along friends like “Lean On”‘s main man Major Lazer as well as Craig David, hot on his Top 10 UK success with “When The Bassline Drops”, to show us his other softer side like we heard on “Fill Me In” back in the day.  The unexpected pairing of voices blends magically and I’m sure you’ll be playing “Who Am I” on repeat.
