Malaysian-American pop band Beat The System @BTSystemBand returns with the satisfying “Chasing The High”

BEAT THE SYSTEM, “Chasing The High”

We last heard from Malaysian-NYC band Beat The System when they released their full length album Journey in 2019, largely a compilation of previous singles which rounded out another phase of the band, who have been making music since 2005.  Taking some time off to focus on their sound, the group returns with “Chasing The High”.  There are nothing but good vibes in this song, where you can relish chasing your dreams and reaching that special ‘high’ in your life.  With the addition of new vocalist, 2020 “American Idol” contestant Shannon Gibbons, the sound of Beat The System is lighter, brighter and tighter, with some airy synths playing a key role in the song’s hook.  The rest of Beat The System continues to be guitarist Stewart Sellan, his brother drummer Gerald Sellan, and composer Adrian Puan.

Meet Malaysian duo @Spudsmusic with charming but melancholy “You & Me” featuring SRH

SPUDS and SRH, “You & Me”

Spuds is the new production duo of Justin and Zen who hail from Malaysia.  Some of you may already know of them from their remix of The Chainsmokers’ “Paris” which got some attention last year.  Featuring vocalist SRH (as in Sarah, also from Malaysia), “You & Me” has a great melody that will keep you listening as the song switches it up with future bass rhythms, while the lyrics unfold a story about unrequited love.  The song starts off as somewhat of a duet but ultimately lands to SRH to carry it to the end with her beautiful tones.  “You & Me” is a pleasing surprise and a solid introduction to the craft that Spuds can bring to the electronic dance music world.  Add “You & Me” to your Sad & Rhythmic playlist using the Spotify link above.

Sad, inspiring “Be Your Own” is a big ballad by NYC-based Malaysian trio @BTSystemband

“Be Your Own” is the kind of big, sweeping, timeless ballad that’s sad but inspiring and full of mass appeal.  It’s from the trio Beat The System, who relocated from Malaysia to NYC to follow their dreams.  And I can’t blame them for continuing to promote “Be Your Own” long after its release due to its fine potential.  It’s got a grand-sounding production that will attract fans of Celine Dion, Kelly Clarkson and Leona Lewis, thanks to the pitch-perfect powerful voice of singer May Leigh.  Beat The System is rounded out by guitarist Stewart Sellan, drummer Gerald Sellan, and songwriter Adrian Puan.  Watch the video and you’ll be convinced that big things could be ahead for Beat The System.
