“Eleven” is a fun and funky crowd pleaser for your Fall playlists from Toronto’s Will Bowes @wilsonbowes

WILL BOWES, “Eleven”

“Eleven” is the most engaging song that I heard at Will Bowes’ debut performance as a solo artist this summer.  It’s a jazz-flavoured, funk-filled slice of fun that will keep your toes tapping and hands clapping along.  Will’s vocals get a real workout as he exercises his falsetto in Prince-ly ways.  The bouncing beat is familiar enough, and “Eleven” is enhanced big time by the appearance of some well placed saxophone work.  Already known as a singer with the Toronto pop/R&B/jazz collective Gold Complex, “Eleven” is an infectious must-add for your Fall playlists that would sound terrific on the radio, and a big taste of what’s to come when Will Bowes releases his first album in the near future.

“Runway Lights” by Toronto’s @WilsonBowes brims with pop radio potential

WILL BOWES, “Runway Lights”

You’ve already met singer/actor and sometime voice actor Will Bowes through this blog with both his solo songs and his music as singer with the R&B/pop collective called Gold Complex.  “Runway Lights” is his new single and its appealing melody and uplifting lyrics are just what pop radio needs right now in Canada to help cut through a lot of samey-sounding dross.  Will has a rich, soulful and expressive tone which makes every word mean something, and could be a breakout talent to watch this year.  The production is straight-forward and compliments both melody and voice.  Sometimes you can’t ask for more than a pop song that has the goods and “Runway Lights” should do well and perhaps attract attention from beyond Canada in the process.

Will Bowes plays The Drake Hotel in Toronto on Monday, July 22 – see you there!

Listen to passionate, powerful “Mad At The World” by #Toronto’s Will Bowes @wilsonbowes

WILL BOWES, “Mad At The World”

Despite its title, “Mad At The World” is a passionate plea to find more love in us all, as written and sung by my fellow Torontonian Will Bowes.  If you recognize his name, it may be from his appearances on TV as a teen in “Naturally, Sadie” and “How To Be Indie”, followed by appearances in films like personal fave “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World”, “Hunting Season”, and “House At The End Of The Street” opposite Oscar-winner Jennifer Lawrence.  But “Mad At The World” could light the fire for a pop music career for Will, written in response to two recent tragedies in Toronto resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries.  He certainly draws upon classic styles one would associate with Elton John or Billy Joel but that you can also find in recent releases by Harry Styles, James Arthur or Father John Misty.  Will’s gruffer, bluesy tones bathe in the emotion which makes “Mad At The World” a compelling, thoughtful release.
