Tuned-On! Top 30 #311 – October 12/09

The Top 10 of my personal chart  is all shook up this week as some long-lasting favourites tumble to make room for new ones. Heading the pack though is Dan Black’s “Symphonies”, its fourth appearance at #1 and only the second this year to last that length, the first being contemporary torch song “Run Away” by another UK talent Sam Taylor. I’m hoping that Dan’s CD UN will get release in North America as he is a talent just waiting to explode. So much so that the chart is jumping on a 3rd track from that CD this week, and with all likelihood another one will debut in two weeks (it’s that good!).

Playing runner-up this week, “Pink Cadillac” by 100 Akres featuring Roz Bell soars 8-2. This track is completely free online, there is no major label involved. Will it be the only ‘unreleased’ track to ever get to #1 on this chart? We’ll see!

Mika’s “We Are Golden” is running out of steam a bit but still rises 5-3, with an even more catchy follow-up debuting this week ;D

Gary Go’s “Wonderful” moves 7-4 and is one of those songs that you can’t help but sing along with as you play it more.

Newcomers to the Top 10 are Dan Black’s “U + Me”, K’naan & Adam Levine’s fun “Bang Bang”, and Calvin Harris’ floor-stomper “Ready for the Weekend”.

Other songs movin’ on up are by indie darlings Matt & Kim, Hot Chelle Rae, Joshua Radin, and Roz Bell (from his 2nd CD October). The fastest riser on the chart is club-banger David Rush’s “Shooting Star”.

HAVEN’T MET YOU YET Michael Buble

Michael Buble live clip “Haven’t Met You Yet”

I was pleased to win tix to see Michael Buble live in concert in Toronto for a television show broadcast earlier this week.  He’s a fantastic performer, I saw him a few years ago.  He looks like a lean, mean fighting machine, and really delivered the goods with his new single “Haven’t Met You Yet” from his upcoming CD Crazy Love.

Globalchart – October 4/09

Each week, the Globalchart on the M4B Charts Central (M4BCC) message board is updated to reflect the week’s musings over music from approximately 50 personal chart compilers around the world on the Internet.

I started the Globalchart in August 1998 and it found a home on the M4BCC message board in 2004, when my Charts Central message board was consolidated with another online personal charts survey called the M4B Top 50. My friend Bryan Armstrong took on the task of compiling the Globalchart weekly from that time onward.

The latest chart is the 392nd edition. Enjoy!

You Like to Watch, Don’t You?

For your viewing entertainment, here are some videos of some of my current favourite performers and/or songs.

MANS ZELMERLOW “Hope and Glory”

It’s a pretty cheesy song compared to others on this Swedish singer’s CD MZW, but his performance has major WOW factor.  Do I smell international breakout?  Now he needs a website in English!

DAN BLACK “Symphonies”

Our resident UK music scientist with an equally imaginative video.

FLORENCE & THE MACHINE  “Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)”

The song has one of the most memorable choruses in recent memory, as well as great imagery, captured in fine fashion in the video.

EVAN TAUBENFELD “Boy Meets Girl”

Baltimore native Evan’s out to take over the pop music world, one fan at a time.  Songs with amusing lyrics like “Boy Meets Girl” will definitely help him get there!  Here’s a live clip.

MIKA  “We Are Golden”

The 2000’s version of the Tom Cruise underwear scene from “Risky Business”???  If not, it’s bright, colourful and fun!

Enjoy!
