Simplicity in Emotion: @CarlosdNobrega Covers Sia’s “Breathe Me”

CARLOS NOBREGA, “Breathe Me”

Portugal’s favourite multi-talented son is back, after dancing his way through 2012 with “Pitiful” (from This Beat Is…Poptronik Volume One), “Turn It Up”, and particularly “Music Makes You Lose Control” (which had control of the top of my chart about a year ago – jogging your memory below).  Carlos Nóbrega has toned it down to a tender state with his brilliant cover of Sia’s “Breathe Me” (available for free through Carlos’ website via email subscription).  That song was recorded back in 2004, so it’s a timely rendition.  And it’s funny being a parent sometimes.  I played “Breathe Me” for my daughter, who promptly told me that she’s known the song for years, having also been featured in the film “Cyberbully”.  Trumped!

Anyway, the video is simple and eloquent, focusing on Carlos performing the song while other people around him are at the edge of various emotions.  It’s very well directed (by Fran Martinez) and edited, I’m sure when it all came together in a final edit it felt amazing.  “Breathe Me” is from Carlos’ upcoming EP, due in December, called The Cover Love Sessions, because with our dear friend Mr. Nóbrega, love definitely comes first 🙂  PS he’s also made two films during the year – busy guy!
