#BILLCSTop30 #698 – August 12/24

One rather static-looking chart two weeks ago begets a busy chart brimming with activity, which includes another new #1 plus five debuts!  These days it’s either feast or famine as I want to showcase the songs that I enjoy the most at this time, and to let them linger up to the maximum 10 chart appearances (that’s 20 weeks) that has been in place for the last 26 years. The BILLCS Top 30 initially started off as a monthly Top 10 but by August 1998 it became a Top 30! I’ve resisted temptation to make it a Top 40 as I wouldn’t want any songs peaking in the 30’s. Whether they get there or not, my intention with adding songs to the chart is with the hope that they reach the Top 10.

Remember – my blog posts are all about DISCOVERY, so let the music in!!

Check out my ONLINE RADIO SHOWS below as they are now directly tied in with this blog.  As most of you know, I host 3 online radio shows – The Big 20 and two iterations of Your Weekend New Music Mix – and produce 2 online radio segments – my new music and retro picks of the week – that are all pre-recorded. The Big 20 and the picks of the week are happily being syndicated and you can find the current schedule for all at the bottom of the home page of this blog.

Sam Feldt, JVKE, Anitta, "Mi Amor"

It’s the rather unlikely collaboration of Dutch producer Sam Feldt, American singer/songwriter JVKE and Brazilian multi-talent Anitta that takes over leaping 7-1 with “Mi Amor” (above), a song that has the heart of summer love at its core. It’s the first chart-topper for Sam and Anitta, and the third for JVKE, following his breakout “Golden Hour”, and “Hero” with Martin Garrix.  JVKE has another new collaboration that’s percolating with South Korean group ENHYPEN and the English version of “XO (Only If You Say Yes)”, which you can check out below.

thefatrat, RIELL, "Myself & I"

“Myself & I” has gone to even greater new heights this week for Germany’s TheFatRat and Canada’s RIELL, advancing 5-3.

Kygo, Zak Abel, Nile Rodgers, "For Life"

Making short work of the Top 10 is “For Life” (above) by Kygo, Zak Abel and Nile Rodgers, which zips up the chart 10-4. Kygo’s other chart entry, “Without You” (below) with previous chart-topper Hayla, climbs 27-21.

The Chainsmokers, ELIO, "Bad Advice"

Soaring into the Top 10 12-5 is the rather overlooked “Bad Advice” by The Chainsmokers with Canadian singer ELIO. It’s a new favourite by the boys for me and is culled from their EP No Hard Feelings. It’s their 9th Top 5 entry.

Nemo, "The Code"

There are still three more songs that debut in the Top 10:

  • EuroVision winner “The Code” (above) by Switzerland’s Nemo glides 11-8.
  • Nile Rodgers gets a concurrent Top 10 entry on Purple Disco Machine and Benjamin Ingrosso’s “Honey Boy” (below), with vocalist Shenseea, which rises 13-9. It’s Purple Disco Machine’s second Top 10 entry, and it’s Nile’s fourth where he has been billed.
  • Swedish production duos Jubēl and NOTD have the Fastest Riser on the chart, advancing 18-10 with “Chocolate” (also below). It’s NOTD’s second Top 10 entry following their 2021 #1 “Nobody”.

Crash Adams, "Hotel Party"

Starting to make waves all over North America is Canadian duo Crash Adams with the rollicking “Hotel Party” climbing 21-17.

The Knocks, Dolores Forever, "Lover"

The Knocks and Dolores Forever have a real charmer with the bright dream pop/dance fusion of “Lover” (25-19).

GT_Ofice, Matthew Topper, Robbie Rosen, "Ecstasy"

“Ecstasy” is a powerful  dance banger from Miami’s GT_ofice, New Jersey’s Matthew Topper, and NYC’s Robbie Rosen, which rises 26-20.

Lucas & Steve, LAWRENT, Jordan Shaw, "End Of Time"

“End Of Time” is the Top 10 North American dance radio hit for Dutch dance producers Lucas & Steve, UK dance producer LAWRENT, and UK vocalist/songwriter Jordan Shaw, which moves up 30-24.

Jude York, "Monaco"

At the top of the debuts is the stunning pop/dance release by Australia’s Jude York called “Monaco”, which bows at #25. Jude has actually appeared before on the chart, but under other names.

Starsights, George Gleeson, "Leo (Flicker)"

At #26 we have the arrival of “Leo (Flicker)” by the dance production collective called Starsigns featuring UK singer/songwriter George Gleeson. It’s a solid blend of emotional pop and house music. Starsigns consists of three producers, all of Asian heritage – yetep (South Korean), Manila Killa (Filipino) and MYRNE (Singaporean). It’s first time appearances for yetep and MYRNE, but the sixth for Manila Killa.

Sian, Bobby Nourmand, James LeSal, "Control"

Did you know that as music fans your body is controlled by giant black speakers?  Well maybe not, but L.A. based dance producers SIAN and Bobby Nourmand will have you convinced otherwise during the hypnotic “Control”, which arrives at #28. It’s a unique record with memorable verses by NYC spoken word artist David LeSal. It’s Bobby Nourmand’s 8th appearance on the chart. He’s been to #1 twice with the equally different “D E E P in NY” (2017) and “Subterranean/Estranged” (2019). The latter is the only ‘double-sided’ single to appear on the chart.

Alex Sampson, "Pretty Baby"

Canada’s Alex Sampson returns to the chart with the retro-pop ballad “Pretty Baby” at #29. Alex charted last year with the bouncy pop of “WANT YOU!” (#16). “Pretty Baby” takes a successful dip into JVKE and Stephen Sanchez territory, which won over the judges recently on “America’s Got Talent”, so Alex is advancing to the live shows.

Fly By Midnight, "SuperFine"

Rounding out the debuts at #30 is the super-catchy and summery “SuperFine” by NYC’s duo of Justins, Fly By Midnight, who make their chart debut.
