And so begins my 2025 chart year! My Top 30 of 2024 will be broadcast on Halton Hills Radio Online at www.haltonhillsonline.com twice – at 4pm EST on December 31 and again at 10pm EST on January 1. 95% of the fastest moving songs and activity is in the upper part of the chart this week.
Check out information about my ONLINE RADIO SHOWS after the chart below as they are now directly tied in with this blog. As most of you know, I host 3 online radio shows – The Big 20 and two iterations of Your Weekend New Music Mix – and produce 2 online radio segments – my new music and retro picks of the week – that are all pre-recorded. The Big 20 and the picks of the week are happily being syndicated and you can find the current schedule for all at the bottom of the home page of this blog.
TELYKast and Sam Gray have a lock on #1 for a second appearance at the top with their luscious deep house track “Surrender Your Love”.
Up 3-2 and challenging for #1 in two weeks is “Finally” by Swedish House Mafia and Alicia Keys in one of the most unexpected and pleasing current collaborations today. I’d be a happy camper if they did another one sometime soon!
Canada’s Dan Talevski scores his 4th Top 5 entry with his recent, and quite different, single “mine” rising 10-5. His 2015 release “Guilty As Sin” is his personal best to date and peaked at #3.
Bud Cahill’s violin-soaked electronic instrumental “Intergalactic Highway” continues to climb the chart, up 8-6.
GT_ofice’s euphoric house track “Someone Else” becomes his 4th Top 10 entry and rises 15-8.
There’s no denying a warm, inspiring dance release and “Somedays” by Sonny Fodera, Jazzy and D.O.D. is a real mood changer, jumping 16-9.
The Fastest Riser on the chart is the Mashbit VIP remix of “Back to Life” by L.A.-based dance producer Angrybaby, which soars 20-10. Watch for him on a club tour in the New Year!
Just when you might have thought it would get stuck below the halfway mark, Berri’s “Overthinking” (produced and written by Bright Light Bright Light) busts a move and climbs 17-11.
The only remaining big move on the chart is 30-23 for “In The Back of My Cadillac” (Eric Kupper remix) by Texas native NYNE in collaboration with K.C. & The Sunshine Band, for whom he is musical director.
That the four debuts are congregating at the bottom of the chart this week means absolutely nothing. The Highest Debut belongs to Toronto-area pop/rock duo Crash Adams with the affecting feel-good track “Optimist” at #27. It’s their fifth chart entry; their first was just over four years ago!
At #28 is British producer PAWSA, who is going great guns in Europe with his releases. He teams up with fellow Brit Stevie Vincent, aka The Adventures of Stevie V, for an update of “Dirty Cash (Money Talks)”, a huge favourite of mine in its original 1990 release that also got to #2 in the UK. This collaboration really slams and makes “Dirty Cash” a fun club track all over again.
At #29 is the third chart entry and first since 2021 for UK rocker Sam Fender with the title track of his upcoming album People Watching. Sam is touring North America throughout 2025 so watch to see if he’s coming to your city. Sam’s writing is inspired by his observations, which often make for gritty and emotional songs.
Wrapping up the debuts at #30 is Damiano David, lead singer with Italy’s EuroVision winners Maneskin, with a decidedly un-Maneskin track, “Born With A Broken Heart”. It looks like EuroVision audiences knew something that many of us might not have – “Born” is a snappy, danceable pop track that could easily stand alongside songs by Conan Gray or Clairo, and could also appeal to those of you who enjoy the pop sub-genre called “dream pop”.
