Watch out for new UK singer/songwriter @NatalieShay with “Yesterday”

NATALIE SHAY, “Yesterday”

After winning a slew of recent awards in her native London, which led to a story in Billboard last month, Natalie Shay is more than ready to shine in the worldwide spotlight that a solid song like “Yesterday” might bring for her.  Co-written and recorded with Jonathan Vears, who has worked with the likes of Imagine Dragons, “Yesterday” is richly layered, punchy pop/rock that recounts a relationship that was never meant to be.  Natalie’s style often recalls artists like Alanis Morissette, or perhaps even her own namesake, Natalie Imbruglia – one that will rock right out but still capture a beautifully trained voice with expressive qualities.  “Yesterday” is a worthy introduction to a new talent that we will hear more of throughout the year.

Snazzy ‘n jazzy “Dizzy” by @TylerShawmusic

TYLER SHAW, “Dizzy”

Things just keep getting better for Canadian singer/songwriter Tyler Shaw, who I’ve written about a number of times in these blog pages.  “House of Cards” was his most successful single yet, continuing to receive massive national airplay in Canada, not to mention Tyler recently opening up for Kelly Clarkson and Nick Jonas in concert.  “Dizzy” should take that success and run with it, hopefully south of the border too.  It’s got a slick and snazzy pop style with a jazzy R&B undercurrent along with a potent vocal to make it stand out big time from a lot of sound-alike pop on the radio today.  I don’t doubt for a second that “Dizzy” will be a fun concert performance number too.  There has been so much fine and breaking talent out of my country this year and Tyler Shaw’s “Dizzy” ranks up there as one of the catchiest recent releases.  Watch for Tyler’s debut album Yesterday on September 4.

Amid many recent solo performances this year, Tyler Shaw plays The Virgin Mobile Mod Club in Toronto on Thursday, September 10 along with Eleven Past One, Heist, and Adrian Mitchell.

Be Stronger than “Yesterday” with Victoria Trinetti (@VTrinetti)

VICTORIA TRINETTI, “Yesterday”

From beauty pageants, modelling, and acting, and on to music, Toronto’s Victoria Trinetti brings her A-game with her new single “Yesterday”.  The 18 year old has wisely chosen a song to empower youth against bullying, which makes it a great companion piece to Eleven Past One‘s latest single “I’m Ready” too.  “Yesterday” has enormous potential, and while Victoria might slide nicely into the Selena Gomez/Bridgit Mendler niche, I hear versatility that aims for a more Kelly Clarkson kind of power.  As a result, “Yesterday” breezes by quite splendidly, with taut message in hand, and I think her target audience will love it while reeling in their parents and older relatives too.  The Soundcloud link above is just a snippet.  If you want to hear the entire song, head over to Victoria’s radio station on Jango.com right here, or of course purchase “Yesterday” on iTunes.
