SIMON CURTIS, “Love”
Putting his previous musical personas on hold – the lonely boy robot of the 8bit Heart mixtape who stole our heart, and the intense rebel of the album R∆ – L.A.-based singer, songwriter, and author Simon Curtis makes a more than welcome return with “Love”, his first new music since 2013’s Love, S EP. Instead of being brokenhearted and/or looking for love or sex, “Love” is about being comfortably, rapturously in love, spiritually and physically. It’s a beautiful and warm song, accenting a soulful side of Simon that hasn’t really shone through in his other works. His on-point high register amid his always fine vocal draws with familiarity from the music of one of his inspirations (and fans!), Darren Hayes, while the music has a sexy groove with an instrumental pause 3/4 way through that parallels any soft, romantic, and speechless interlude that you might have with a partner. It helps “Love” reach its 4 minute length without issue. With “Love”, Simon Curtis offers the aftermath of what is sometimes a lifetime journey to get to all of the right moments we want and more. It reassures us that “Love” is indeed out there waiting for all of us. I can’t wait to find out where Simon will take us next!
